Toronto's Market Pressure.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have always had high expectations for playing for such a prestigious team.
Playing for a team like the Leafs comes with heavy consequences. When failure arises, many times you see players get traded just because the fan base does not like him on the team.
Mitch Marner who is now one of the main pieces of todays Toronto Maple Leafs had this to say about being a member of the blue and white.
"I think you can see the excitement and how much enjoyment I have, whether it's having fun around the rink or just wearing that jersey. I know there are more lovers than haters out there. Far more. The haters are just louder. There's nothing you can really do about that. There are people who are friends to your face but say a lot of things behind it.

"For me, it's about staying away from all that stuff. I know our team loves each other. I know every guy in that locker room has a lot of trust in the guy beside him and the guy across from him. We've got a lot of joy and excitement in our locker room and that's what keeps you going." - Marner about the pressure and noise that comes with playing in a hockey hot bed like Toronto
Now the Leafs have a impressive core four players that have struggled in the playoffs and have yet to bring the cup back to Toronto.

Marner and the Core Four

Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and John Tavares are all superstars in the NHL and have been for many years now yet when it comes to the post season they have yet to find real success and have caused many to question the cores abilities.
"Look, we want to take a lot of responsibility. Yeah, we definitely have a lot of weight on our shoulders, but it's weight that we've all wanted and have asked for pretty much with what we do on the ice.

At the same time, it's definitely a team sport, you need everyone out there, and we all know that we need to be better to achieve our ultimate goals. So there's nothing you can really do about it other than just kind of ignore the outside noise and know that everyone in that locker room appreciates each other." - Marner on the expectations of playing in Toronto

After the elimination of the Maple Leafs by the hands of the Florida Panthers all eyes shifted to the contracts of Matthews and Nylander who are both entering their last year.
Nylander and the Leafs are quite far apart on contract talks with has sparked speculation of a Nylander trade, signifying this upcoming season may be the last with this core 4 with the Leafs.
It is believed that the Leafs and Matthews will get an contract inked up but a deal that will be no longer than 5 years for the former 60-goal scorer.
