Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi is due a new contract. His contract projection is a fair market value, but him calling Toronto home is something the 29-year-old has wanted to do for a long time.

Domi had a solid season with the Leafs, tallying 47 points in 80 games and adding 4 points in 7 playoff games. While these numbers are respectable, they only tell part of the story. Domi brings a unique skill set to the team.
At 29, Domi is the epitome of a playoff player. He's physically, aggressive, and isn't afraid to get into the rough areas. He also has excellent passing skills and is proficient at winning faceoffs.
During the latter half of the regular season, Domi found himself on the top line alongside superstar Auston Matthews. The chemistry between Matthews, Domi, and Bertuzzi made them the most effective line for the Leafs all season.
Max Domi's father, Tie Domi, was a beloved figure among Leafs fans for his toughness and fighting ability. While Max may not be as renowned a fighter as his father, he still racked up 118 penalty minutes this season, ranking 6th in the NHL.
Negotiating a new contract with the Leafs will be a challenge for Domi and the team, but both sides seem to have found a good fit. Domi will likely return next season, but the question remains: at what cost?

A contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $4.617 million over 3 years seems like a bargain for a player who complements a generational talent like Matthews. Domi's performance this season didn't warrant a salary exceeding $5 million, making him an affordable option for the Leafs, especially if they can offload a larger contract.
