Mitch Marner spoke to the media Wednesday and gave some thoughts on what he felt it will be like to play under new coach Craig Berube.
Marner was one of the key players that were in attendance at the Austin Matthews captaincy ceremony on Wednesday to support one of his teammates and good friends.
One thing that Marner did not comment about was his contract extension or any new deals being discussed. But he did talk about what he thinks it will be like to play under Berube.
Marner was very positive about working with the new coach and excited to see where the team will go under his leadership.
"Craig has been awesome... It's been great talking to him all summer. We're excited for this year, we're excited to get it going. He's been a joyful new mind and we're excited to play under him. Talking with Craig throughout the summer, he's been amazing. He's bringing a great new mindset to the team. I talked to a lot of people that have been under his coaching and I've only heard great things. We're very excited to have him."
Berube seemed to share this sentiment about Marner when he was hired. Back at the 2024 NHL entry draft, he specifically mentioned Marner by name when he talked about his excitement to coach in Toronto.
It looks like both player and coach are on the same page as to how to move the team forward into the 2024-25 season. We will see how that unfolds between the two during the season and if Berube's excitement will lead to a extension for Marner.
