Former NHL veteran and 40-year-old Valtteri Filppula has decided to head to Finland and sign a contract to continue playing pro hockey for another year.
Valtteri Filppula just signed a contract with a team he used to play for in Finland in the past, the Jokerit Mestis. That's pretty impressive considering he's 40. There are reports circulating that say once Filppula retires as a player, he will be given a share of that club as a co-owner.
During Valtteri Filppula's time in North America, he played for Detroit, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and the NY Islanders, and this was over the course of 16 seasons and he was able to hit over 1,000 games. In those games he managed to score 197 goals and 530 points. His final year in the NHL was during the 2020-21 season with the Detroit Red Wings.

Valtteri Filppula can proudly say that he is part of the triple gold club, which is a very rare feat. The reason he is a member of this club is because he became the first ever Finnish player to not only win the Stanley Cup in the NHL, but also a world championship as well as the 2022 Olympic gold medal.
As mentioned earlier, Valtteri Filppula already played for this Finnish club that he's heading back to, and that was back when the NHL had a lockout during the 2012-13 season. He suited up in 16 games, and managed 15 points.
Good luck in Finland Valtteri, and here's hoping you prove to all those 40 year olds out there that the impossible can be done.
