NHL analysts Paul Bissonnette and Kevin Bieksa were not impressed with the play of the Toronto Maple Leafs in game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and they made their thoughts clear on their respective broadcasts Saturday night.
Bissonnette began by criticizing Maple Leafs forward Pontus Holmberg for his poor defensive play that lead to a Boston Bruins goal, and a three goal lead in the second period of game 1.
He then moved on to blast Maple Leafs defensemen Simon Benoit for a poor shot block attempt that left goalie Ilya Samsonov guessing which side the shot was going to go.
During the same intermission on the Sportsnet broadcast, Kevin Bieksa was pointing out the same mental errors that Bissonnette had been so animated about.
Along with New Jersey Devils goaltender Jake Allen, he began to break down the same goal Bissonnette was talking about on TNT, while criticizing Simon Benoit for not giving a clear view of the shot on his glove side.
»When DeBrusk lines up here for Benoit, Benoit is playing for a down low pass and there's nobody even there... Geekie is even showing his stick, everybody knows he's shooting there.»
The Toronto Maple Leafs have dug themselves yet another hole in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and NHL analysts are going to be all over the mistakes they make in the coming games, as Bissonnette and Bieksa's comments have shown.
