This year has been no exception when it comes to scrutinizing the officiating in the NHL.
Referees have faced criticism for their inconsistent calls, with penalties, video reviews, and other decisions becoming points of contention for fans and players alike.
During yesterday's matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings, a controversial decision was made following a heated altercation involving all 10 players on the ice.
Astonishing Game Misconduct for Bunting

Prior to the scuffle, Bunting had already been penalized for embellishment. The incident took place at the end of the second period when
Marco Kasper attempted to confront Samsonov.
Timothy Liljegren stepped in, causing the situation to intensify.
As shown in the video below, Bunting didn't actually engage in any misconduct. Despite this, the referees chose to hand him a 10-minute game misconduct. Ultimately, his minor action of moving a player's stick with his skates landed him in more hot water than it should have.
It's troubling when a minor action like this results in an ejection while punching an opponent in the face goes unpunished. Why was Bunting ejected, especially when Kasper was the instigator? Another baffling call by the officials.
Bunting has earned a reputation in the NHL for his feisty demeanor and knack for drawing penalties. This makes him a target for opponents, and it appears that referees aren't too fond of it either.
His playing style could prove effective in the playoffs, but if the referees continue to unfairly penalize him, he'll face more challenges than his peers.
We can only hope that the NHL ensures fair and consistent officiating during the post-season games.
