Rangers rookie Matt Rempe has made a name for himself as the next enforcer in the league. He already has four fights in just seven games. However, he has also made a couple of questionable hits, including one on Leafs defenseman Ilya Lybushkin yesterday.
The Leafs blueliner, whom the team only just acquired from the Ducks in a trade, left last night's game early after taking a hit from Rangers center Matt Rempe. The 6'8" 220 pound rookie has been a human wreaking ball since being called up to the NHL, making many hits like this one.
head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed after the game that the defenseman did in fact, leave with a head injury. The team has not updated us on his condition since then, but it seems that he will likely miss at least a couple of games.
The play has become somewhat controversial as many Leafs fans believe there should have been a penalty. There was also noise coming from the Leafs camp about a possible suspension for Rempe, but it appears as though that will not be happening. The 5PM EST deadline has passed with no word from the league, indicating that Rempe has gotten away with this one.
