The Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe called out his players after Satuday night's loss in game 7 against the Boston Bruins.
The Leafs are now officially in vacation after falling one win short of making a comeback from a 3-1 deficit.
After the game, coach Keefe met with the media for his last post-game press conference of the season. He summed up the series in one sentence and it caused a bit of a stir on social media.
"When teams play the Leafs, they set up the game for the Leafs to beat themselves."
It's the coach's job to make adjustments and lead players so they can compete at another level in the playoffs. By saying that, he basically says that he fails at his job. That's not something to say if you want to keep your job.
He continued by saying he loved his players' efforts despite the bad results, showing he failed to motivate his troops enough:
"Obviously, the series is very close. It is the thinnest of margins you can get—Game 7 overtime. It is very disappointing not to come out on the right side of it. I loved how our team fought to put us in this position to compete, play in this game, and have a chance to be one shot away."
Do you think the Toronto Maple Leafs will fire Sheldon Keefe this summer?
