Sheldon Keefe has just revealed when the Toronto Maple Leafs plan on getting Ilya Lyubushkin into the lineup for his first game back as a Leaf.
Keefe Reveals the Plan to Play Lyubushkin Tonight if All Goes Well
As soon as Mark Giordano went down with an injury, it was obvious that the Leafs needed to make something happen to bring in a blueliner. They are shorthanded on the back end, to the point that Mitch Marner had to play defence during their matchup against the Coyotes.
With Brad Treliving making the move to bring in former Leaf Ilya Lyubushkin, Sheldon Keefe has revealed that the plan is for him to play tonight, should all go well with the move.
Sheldon Keefe says Calle Jarnkrok says is a «possibility» for tomorrow and will have to see how he got through today's practice.
Timothy Liljegren is possible as well but the fact that he didn't practice today puts it in question.
The hope for tomorrow is that Ilya Lyubushkin can play provided he gets here fine and there are no visa issues.
Lyubushkin Trade Criticised However Treliving May Not Be Finished
The Ilya Lyubushkin trade was immediately criticized by fans online, as the Leafs really need to bring in a top-pairing defenseman to play with Morgan Rielly. However, they also needed some depth, as highlighted by their injuries, and with Lyubushkin's salary highly retained, the Leafs still have room to make something else happen.
We will see what else Brad Treliving and the Leafs have up their sleeves as the deadline approaches.
