Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe gave an update on Mitch Marner yesterday. It sounds like he is still going to be out awhile longer. Meanwhile, Morgan Rielly will also likely miss tonight's game against the Capitals. As for Auston Matthews, he was a missing piece at practice today and Keefe reveals his status for tonight's game.

Marner to miss more time with high-ankle sprain

Marner last played on March 7th after which he suffered a high-ankle sprain. He was seen practicing by himself on the ice for the first time since sustaining the injury on Tuesday.

Yesterday, Sheldon Keefe gave us an update on the winger's status. He won't be playing today against the Washington Capitals, but he will be practicing with the team on Friday.
Sheldon Keefe says Mitch Marner will remain out the next two games but will rejoin practice on Friday.

That sets him up for a potential return some time next week.

Marner has already missed eight games with a high ankle sprain.
The Leafs have done reasonably well in Marner's absence, going 4-3-1. However, they have lost their last two games against the Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils. Keefe was particularly upset with Captain John Tavares after the loss to the Devils.
From @markhmasters & @reporterchris - How Leafs captain John Tavares is handling being called out by Sheldon Keefe, and what Keefe is trying to achieve with the callout:
At this morning's practice Auston Matthews was absent due to illness confirms Keefe. He will be a game time decision for tonight's game.

The Leafs now hold just a two-point lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning for 3rd place in the Atlantic division. They do have one more game to play than the Lightning, but they will have to be sharp in order to hold them off. Hopefully, Marner's return will spark the team for the last few games of the regular season.
