While most Maple Leafs fans are looking for Auston Matthews to be included in the Hart Trophy race, today it was confirmed that No. 34 is up for a different award. It has now been revealed that Matthews will be a candidate for the King Clancy Award, a trophy that is 'awarded annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community'.
This goes to show that while he's a star on the ice, away from it, he cares just as much about the fans and community that give him support in Toronto, and is a well deserved nomination.
The Maple Leafs fans will be looking for a big playoff push, but for now, this is great recognition for someone that's become a key piece of the city, so now we wait and see if he is given the prestigious award.
