This weekend, a moving ceremony saw the emotional Gaudreau family memorialize Johnny and Matthew during a North American Hockey League contest between the Philadelphia Rebels and the Northeast Generals at the Hollydell Ice Arena. Far from being just any other touching gesture, the arena meant quite a bit to the Gaudreau family.
The brothers grew up skating on that very ice at Hollydell, with their father Guy bringing them there frequently as they first learned to love the game of hockey. In memory of that bond, the Futures Rink at the arena has now been renamed "The Gaudreau Rink" in their name.
The Gaudreau family, who also wore jerseys bearing the boys' names in tribute, hit the ice as well, and one of their sisters gave a very heartwarming speech to thank all for their great support during
incredibly hard times.
Fans and family members joined in the various respects paid to the brothers, stating a volume in words about how much this ice rink meant to them: a place more than a venue to hockey skate around on but where they first started loving the game.
It really was quite a touching gesture following such an awful tragedy, one that will no doubt help keep the memory of Johnny and Matthew alive.
