The NHL appear to be expanding to both Salt Lake City and Atlanta in the coming years, but now, a surprise candidate has emerged to host a potential new NHL team.
According to a report, Stan Kroenke, the owner of the Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Rams and Denver Nuggets believes he can bring a new team to San Diego in the coming years.
It's unclear whether or not that Kroenke is eyeing relocation from a team like Arizona, Winnipeg or Columbus or adding an entirely new team, but does California need one?
With the Sharks, Kings and Ducks all occupying California, the state may not be big enough for four NHL teams, and with Salt Lake City and Atlanta likely locked in as NHL teams 33 and 34, it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Still, Kroenke is one of the most powerful men in U.S. Sports, and if he wants to get something done, it's more than likely going to get done, and with ownership of three teams, he appears motivated to add a fourth to that list.
