The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively exploring trade options to address their tight salary cap situation. Defenseman Timothy Liljegren has been on the trading block for several weeks, initially revealed by The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta.
Liljegren recently signed a two-year extension worth $3 million per season, making him more appealing to other teams.
Maple Leafs looking to possibly trade Jarnkrok and Kampf
According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the Leafs are also open to trading veteran forwards Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf. Johnston clarified on 'The CJ Show' that the Leafs are not desperate to offload these players but are willing to consider offers that help manage their cap constraints.
"They would look at moving Kampf, Jarnkrok, or Timothy Liljegren in the right deal," said Johnston. "At this point in the off-season, they need to get creative to make any desired changes to their forward lineup."
Both Jarnkrok and Kampf have multiple years remaining on their contracts, with cap hits of $2.1 million and $2.4 million per season, respectively. Each player also has a modified no-trade clause, giving them some control over potential moves. The Leafs' willingness to trade these players underscores their need to create flexibility and upgrade their roster strategically.
