According to NHL insider and Daily Faceoff host Frank Serravalli, the Canucks are hoping to offload Mikheyev this summer as a way to give the team more cap flexibility. Notably, Mikheyev has two years left on his deal that comes with a 4.75 million dollar cap hit.
According to Serravalli, the Canucks were shopping the veteran winger at the trade deadline this year, but clearly, there wasn't much interest. Now the team is facing a similar problem as teams are reportedly asking the Canucks to throw in a sweetener to make the deal work.
Mikheyev had just 11 goals and 31 points this season in 78 regular-season games. He had zero points in 11 playoff games and last scored a goal all the way back on March 13th. The Canucks are apparently trying to sell teams on the fact that he is still recovering from his torn ACL, but they do not appear to be biting.
