This month the world has come together to witness one of the greatest sporting events in the Olympics and recently one Olympian faced an unfortunate incident.

The Olympics for 2024 are being hosted in Paris. This means that any athlete competing for France will be competing in their home country. For French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati this was an exciting moment. However, his epic Olympic moment quickly turned into an unfortunate meme.
During the initial round of the pole vault competition, Anthony Ammirati was going to do one of his attempts. He made a successful run and looked like he was going to clear the bar until a particularly unfortunate appendage clipped the bar and led to a failed attempt.

As a result of this failed attempt, Anthony Ammirati was unable to move on to the finals of the event. In an interview after the end of the competition, Anthony Ammirati spoke about his disappointment.
«It's a big disappointment. I'm a bit gutted» he said.

Despite the Frencheman's unfortunate luck, the competition did continue on and something unexpected even happened in the finals.

Following up the World Record holder on the podium were Sam Kendricks of the United States with Silver and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece with Bronze. It seems that regardless of Anthony Ammirati's unfortunate incident he would not have made the podium as his personal best in competition is 5.81 meters while it took 5.90 meters to make the podium.
Despite the disappointment of not making the finals and seeing his Olympic medal hopes come to an end Anthony Ammirati became a household name and internet sensation over the last several days. It will be interesting to see how he follows up his new found fame.
