The NHL quietly instituted a rule a few years ago making the wearing of helmets mandatory during pregame warm-ups as a safety measure for all players who entered the league after 2019-20.
Connor Bedard was previously hit with the fine when he made his Blackhawks debut early in October.
Ducks in hot water
Today marked the debut for two rookies on the Anaheim Ducks roster. Leo Carlsson, selected #2 in 2023, and Tristain Luneau, selected 53rd overall in 2022.
Both players took their rookie laps together, and both did not wear helmets. That will be a $2,500 fine that each of them will have to pay the NHL.
Carlsson and Luneau
Carlsson was a surprise selection second overall as many expected Adam Fantilli, who was selected with the next pick, to go in that spot. Carlsson scored 25 points in 44 games in 2022-23 for Orebro HK in the SHL.
Luneau was selected in round two in 2022. He scored 83 points in 65 game for the Gatineau Olympiques in the QMJHL in 2022-23, while also taking home top defenseman honors.
The Ducks are blessed with some fantastic prospects in the system.
