Boston Bruins Coach Flips Out on the Referee for a Penalty Call Until He Sees the Play

The job of a head coach in the NHL is not an easy one. You have to manage both your players and the game strategies each night against different opponents. You also have to mantain a good working relationship with the referees calling the games.

Montgomery Rips into the Referee about a Delay of Game Penalty he Did Not Really See

During the game against the Vegas Golden Knights, Charlie McAvoy was called for a delay of game. Behind the bench you can clearly see that Jim Montgomery was very upset with this call. To him, it appeared to hit off of the opposing players stick. In real time, and from the angle that the puck moved, it could appear that it went off the other player before leaving the ice.
As you can see in the below video, it captures the play itself, and the coach's reaction:
After watching the play from another angle as the one shown above, it is clear that Montgomery did not have the best view of the play when it happened. He quickly regains his composure after realizing that it was a true penalty.
If anything, it shows that Montgomery cares about the game and will stick up for his players, even if he was in the wrong this time.
