Emotional Interview with Jackie Redmond
During a postgame interview with Jackie Redmond of The NHL Network, the 24-year-old goaltender became emotional. He revealed the reason for his gesture, saying:
''Tonight was a really special one. Two years ago today my all-time mentor, Red Gendron, passed away. I was actually in Philly when it happened. I think it was pretty scripted today how it worked out. It was pretty special for that.''
Boston native Red Gendron was Swayman's head coach at the University of Maine from 2017 to 2020, where Swayman was the starting goaltender. Gendron also held positions with the New Jersey Devils, Albany River Rats (AHL), University of Maine, University of Massachusetts, and Yale University. He tragically passed away unexpectedly on April 9th, 2021, at the age of 63.
Swayman's Career Milestones
