It has just been announced that the Maple Leafs have signed prospect Matthew Knies to his entry-level contract. This comes after a series of cap maneuvers.
Knies Inks Entry-Level Contract
Matthew Knies was knocked out of the NCAA Frozen Four playoffs last night, as his team relinquished a 2-0 lead to Quinnipiac in overtime.
This elimination provided Knies the opportunity to leave the NCAA and make his professional debut.
Knies has now signed his entry-level contract with the Leafs, carrying an annual average value of $925,000. This move leaves the Leafs with a mere $3,000 in cap space but provides them with a new option for the playoffs, either in the NHL or AHL.
