The Boston Bruins added goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo to provide some depth to their training camp roster with ongoing contract talks with restricted free agent Jeremy Swayman, who was expected to be their starter.
The hockey journey of Kaskisuo has taken him far and wide. After going pro in 2016 as an undrafted college free agent, he signed with the Toronto Marlies, where he managed to find a regular role in their goaltender rotation. Over five seasons, including a brief stint with the Chicago Wolves, he never emerged as a top-tier talent but consistently delivered solid performances, posting a .905 save percentage across 129 games.
It wasn't a clear path to the NHL, so Kaskisuo opted to take his talents to Sweden in 2021, inking a deal with Leksands IF of the SHL. He had a strong start, notching a .910 save percentage in 40 games during the 2021-22 season, but his play slipped the following year over just 14 appearances. Looking for a fresh start, Kaskisuo returned to North America to suit up for the Laval Rocket last season and posted a team-best .909 save percentage across 13 games.
Now, Kasimir Kaskisuo is eyeing a potential spot with the Bruins, who are working through uncertainty in their goalie ranks. With Jeremy Swayman unsigned for the 2024-25 campaign, Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi become the clear main two in the net, with only prospects Michael Dipietro and Ryan Bischel behind them. That lack of depth could provide an opportunity for Kaskisuo to contribute meaningful minutes, but he may find himself once more in a time-share for the unsettled goalie mix in Boston.
