Simon Benoit played his first season with the Toronto Maple Leafs a year ago, and while he tallied just 5 points over 64 games, he had a +7 differential and showed why he can be a key member of the team moving forward. However, the 26-year old is now missing the first practice off the new season with Toronto, but it's for an incredible reason.
On his 26th birthday, Benoit and his partner are officially welcoming their first child into the world on a day that will be full of love and excitement for Benoit and his family. It's unclear when he will be back, but unsurprisingly, the team support his absence, as this is the type of moment that doesn't happen many times during someone's life, and he should be given the time to properly enjoy the moment.
Currently, Benoit is signed by the Maple Leafs for a further two teams, and even with the additions of Chris Tanev, Jani Hakanpaa and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, he's expected to slot in on the Maple Leafs third pairing, and with his cheap deal and his great play style, he could have a career year in 2024/25 and become one of the team's most valuable players.
