Despite reports to the contrary on day one of training camp, the Boston Bruins aren't close to locking down goaltender Jeremy Swayman on a long-term deal, and the frustration is clearly coming out for GM Don Sweeney. During an interview, he was asked about the reports surrounding the entire situation, and while he showed frustration about the way things were handled, he chose to zero in on former NHLer Paul Bissonnette and the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast.
Recently on the podcast, 'Biz' reported that Sweeney and the Bruins hadn't returned Swayman's calls for weeks, while also stating the team offered him a deal well below market value, all of which could have contributed to the negotiations somehow. Now, with confirmation that a deal hasn't been made by day one of training camp, the pressure is seemingly getting to the GM, as he lashed out throughout the interview after the realization that Jonas Korpisalo may be his starting goaltender on opening night.
It's unclear how rushed either side is to get a deal done with training camp now upon us, but with questionable coverage of the situation, it appears nothing significant has happened in recent weeks, and now we will wait to see if Bissonnette and the podcast respond to being called out by the Bruins General Manager.
