The Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks have completed a trade. The Sabres have been looking to offload a defenseman after signing both Connor Clifton and Erik Johnson this offseason. They finally accomplish this in a deal with the Wild.
Lyubushkin Heads West
The Anaheim Ducks have acquired Ilya Lyubushkin from the Buffalo Sabres for a fourth-round pick:
Trade: #NHLDucks acquire D Ilya Lyubushkin.
To Anaheim: Ilya Lyubushkin
To #Sabres: 2025 4th Rd Pick (MIN)
Anaheim had previously acquired that pick at the 2023 trade deadline for John Klingberg.
The Ducks get a veteran defense-first defenseman to add to their depth. Lyubushkin will be a great depth piece for the Ducks who struggled on defense this past season and is reportedly a very good locker room guy.
For the Sabres they add a fourth-round pick while offloading a player that was at a position that was filled to the brim. Lyubushkin was a good defensive presence for the Sabres but did not fit their timeline to contend.
