Patrick Kane is facing a new decision for the first time in his career this summer. He is an unrestricted free agent after his short stint with the New York Rangers.
He also recently had hip surgery and will be out of hockey until at least October.
While Kane is likely to miss the first few months of the 2023-24 season he is still the most valuable asset left on the free agent market. His high-end offensive skillset and championship pedigree make him a great addition to any team.
One team Kane has been linked to is his hometown, Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres are a team on the rise narrowly missing the playoffs last season. With the additions they have made on defense and the continued development of young goaltender Devon Levi the Sabres are poised to break the longest playoff drought in the NHL.
Where Does Kane Fit in the Lineup?
Kane would take the pressure off of such a young core to stay consistent during a long NHL season and move throughout the lineup. With the forward depth Buffalo has at the moment, Kane could also be given nights off to manage his health and stay fresh for the stretch run.
If Kane is added to this Buffalo group it adds even more flash to a team who has Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin. Whether or not Buffalo would make the playoffs with Kane remains to be seen but they would be must-watch hockey every night.
