Just when it appeared that the Calgary Flames were already dealing with a challenging situation, things have taken a further downward turn for the organization.
Official Trade Request from a Top Defenseman
During the Flames' recent 5-4 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, defenseman Nikita Zadorov managed to score a goal. However, what followed was a surprising social media post from his agent.
"Here comes Zadorov train get your #LeafsForever tickets today #WeAreGoldStar!"
In response to a question about whether the Flames could retain Zadorov, his agent, Dan Milstein, offered a straightforward response.
"I don't think so. Not when the best D barely gets the ice time"
Following the game, Zadorov's formal trade request became publicly known.
"Fresh off a goal and big hit tonight against the @MapleLeafs, I'm told that D Zadorov through his agent @GoldStarHockey Dan Milstein has requested a trade from the @NHLFlames. #HockeyTwitter"
According to Sportsnet, both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks have expressed interest in acquiring Zadorov, although it's expected that other teams will also join the race.
Zadorov is currently earning $3.75 million and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
