The Calgary Flames have had a difficult season to say the least. In fact, the last couple of seasons have been difficult. Things won't be getting easier any time soon though as one of their top defensemen just gave the team an ultimatum.
Noah Hanifin is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The 27-year-old blueliner has been a steady two-way player for the Flames since he was traded to the team ahead of the 2018-19 season. This year he has 9 goals and 28 points through 51 games. All of that being said, it is not clear whether or not Hanifin wants to stay in Calgary.
The Flames are more aware of the situation than anyone so they likely have the best idea of what Hanifin is thinking at the moment. However, they have not made it clear whether or not they are looking to trade the blueliner yet.
According to Frank Seravalli, the Flames defenseman is now the top player potentially available for trade on the market, at least among defensemen. He is playing some of the bets hockey of his career this year, especially when it comes to scoring goals. However, he notes that the team is still waiting to hear from him as to whether or not he would be willing to commit to Calgary long-term. As the trade deadline creeps closer, Hanifin will have to make a decision soon.
