When the Chicago Blackhawks terminated Corey Perry at the beginning of the season, all hope seemed to be lost for the veteran, and all signs pointed to an early end to his season. However, after the NHL gave him the okay to play again this year, and the Edmonton Oilers signed him to another deal, hope was restored.
Further, the NHLPA took it upon themselves to threaten a grievance on Perry's case. Now, it has been revealed that Perry will be paid 3 out of the 4 million dollars of his contract with the Blackhawks.
That is a massive penalty that the Blackhawks will have to pay as a result of terminating his contract, essentially buying him out. Without the details on the event, though, it is hard to pass judgment.
