Earlier this afternoon, we learned that the New York Rangers and their head coach Gerard Gallant have mutually agreed to part ways. It's not surprising to hear that he won't be out of work for long.
According to NHL Insider Aaron Portzline, the Columbus Blue Jackets have expressed interest in hiring Gallant. This could be one of the fastest turnarounds for a coach being let go and then rehired.
Despite a disastrous season with a 25-48-9 record, finishing 31st in the League, the Blue Jackets have players like Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine who could benefit from Gallant's coaching expertise. With his help, the Blue Jackets could become a playoff contender once again.
