Despite another year in which he played 82 games with the Dallas Stars, the team are looking to save space heading into the off-season, officially buying him out.
After being bought out three years ago by the Minnesota Wild, it's happening again for Ryan Suter, this time after a solid campaign with the Dallas Stars where he posted a +14 differential in 82 games.
According to Jeff Marek, the move is set to save the Stars around $1.4 million, freeing up the 39-year old Suter to once again sign wherever he likes in the NHL. It's unclear the level of interest the league has in Suter after 1,444 NHL games on the blue line, but even in 2023-24, he showed he can still be effective.
For the Stars, the salary cap saving will allow them to target more depth and youth in their team, and with a key summer coming up where they look to take the next step towards the Stanley Cup, this was a smart move from the team.
