Tonight reports are confirming that the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks are closing in on a trade to send Ilya Mikheyev and Sam Lafferty to the Blackhawks.
The Vancouver Canucks continue their mission to clear salary cap space ahead of NHL Free Agency. Today they are closing in on a trade to send Ilya Mikheyev and Sam Lafferty and a 2nd round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Hearing Chicago and Vancouver working on a deal that will create cap room for the Canucks — potentially involving Ilya Mikheyev and rights to Sam Lafferty, with a second-round pick as a sweetener
The trade seems to be a salary dump with just a 4th round pick coming back to the Vancouver Canucks.
Ilya Mikheyev hasn't formally agreed to waive his no-trade clause yet to go to #Blackhawks, but provided he does, teams have agreement in place on a trade:
To #Blackhawks: Ilya Mikheyev, 2nd Rd Pick, pending UFA Sam Lafferty
To #Canucks: 4th Rd Pick
As of now the trade has not been finalized and the teams are waiting on Ilya Mikheyeve to approve the trade as he has a no-trade clause.
Mikehev has not yet approved the trade to Chicago, he has a no-trade
If Ilya Mikheyev approves the trade he and Sam Lafferty will both get a fresh start in a new home. The Canucks will then be free to chase whichever big free agents they likely have their eyes on.
