The Detroit Red Wings announced the passing of Stanley Cup champion Sergei Mnatsakanov at 70 years old.
Mnatsakanov was a member the organization when the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1997.
He was a part of the limousine accident a week after winning the championship that ended the career of Vladimir Konstantinov, and was paralyzed from the waist down since then.
The Red Wings organization shared the following post on X to share the tragic news of Mnatsakanov's passing:

His former colleague John Wharton shared an emotional tribute on X. He talked about how he looked up to him and how much of a great person he was:
He also shared that the Red Wings owners, the Ilitch family continued to pay him a salary after his accident, even during the Covid pandemic:
Organization members who aren't players or managers are often forgotten, but it's great to see that Mnatsakanov left a mark in the NHL and in the life of many people, including Wharton.
