The Nashville Predators have officially traded the goaltender Yaroslav Askarov to the San Jose Sharks, according to Elliotte Friedman.

The renowned insider shared the breaking news in the following post on X:

He added that both the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils were also in the mix to get him:
The Predators confirmed the full details of the trade in a press release:
"Nashville, Tenn. (August 23, 2024) - Nashville Predators General Manager Barry Trotz announced today that the team has acquired forward David Edstrom, goaltender Magnus Chrona and the Vegas Golden Knights' first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft (conditional) from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for goaltender Yaroslav Askarov, forward Nolan Burke and Colorado's third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

In the event Vegas' first-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft, previously acquired by San Jose, falls within the Top 10, San Jose has the right to transfer either its first-round pick or Vegas' to Nashville."
Nashville's general manager Barry Trotz surprised a lot of people with his decision to sign Juuse Saros to an eight-year extension, confirming his status as the team's number one despite Askarov's rise.
Multiple reports confirmed that the goalie wouldn't be interested in playing in the AHL next season, and it looks like he'll get what he wants.
Despite all the talent in San Jose, the team is still rebuilding. Getting your best goalie in the NHL to get experience at this stage of his career is crucial for the future. Don't be surprised if we see a flagrant improvement from last year; with Askarov, Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith likely playing their first games as members of the Sharks.
Drafted 11th overall by the Predators in 2020, Askarov, 22, has a promising future in the NHL. In his first three starts in the big league, he may have won only one game, but got great numbers: 2.58 GAA and a .914 SV%.
More to come.
