After nine seasons in the league, former Edmonton Oilers forward Brad Malone has officially retired from the NHL.

Brad Malone has played competitive hockey for nearly two decades, debuting in the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede in the 2006-2007 season. After many years and leagues, the 35-year-old forward has officially retired from the ice. The former Edmonton Oilers and AHL affiliate Bakersfield Condors captain paid tribute to the teams and all those who helped him along the way in his career, particularly since joining the franchise seven years ago.
"Reflecting on the past 20 years, I am filled
with gratitude for the incredible experiences I have had. While my mind and heart remain committed, my physical limitations prevent me from continuing as I wish. I am deeply appreciative of the support and guidance I have received from my family as well as so many individuals throughout this journey. My hope is that I have positively impacted as many lives as those who have helped me along the way. Each step of this journey has been marked by cherished memories. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Bakersfield Condors and the Edmonton Oilers for providing my family and me with a place to call home and an organization to take pride in over these past seven years."
Brad Malone played 217 regular-season NHL games across nine total, making his mark with his draft team the Colorado Avalanche, the Carolina Hurricanes, and most recently the Edmonton Oilers. He was arguably most impactful on the Bakersfield Condors, where he played more than twice as often and scored almost ten times his NHL total points. The league's alumni association honored him for his time in the sport, as well as paying tribute to six members of his family involved in hockey, namely his father-in-law Kirk Muller, who won the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1993.
"Brad Malone has officially announced his retirement from the @NHL after 9 seasons.

Brad was drafted in the 4th round of the 2007 Entry Draft to the @coloradoavalanche, where he would join the roster in the 2011-12 season. He would make his way to the @canes, and @edmontonoilers over his career, totalling for 217 regular-season games-played and scored 32 points.

Malone also made his mark in @theahl, where he played in 552 regular-season games and scored 291. He captained the @condors for four seasons with his main goal of having a positive impact on all lives he touched.

You could say Brad was meant to play professional hockey with the long line of hockey players in his family: father Jim Malone (1st round pick to NYR in 1980), uncle Greg Malone (704 NHL games-played/former director and head scout of numerous NHL teams), cousin Ryan Malone (647 NHL games-played), younger brother Brett Malone (former QMJHL forward), cousin Cole Huckins (3rd round pick to CGY in 2021/current USports), and father-in-law Kirk Muller (Stanley Cup Champion/1,349 NHL games-played/current WSH assistant coach).

Congratulations, Brad, on your impressive career and welcome to the #NHLAlumni Association! 👏"

Now, Brad Malone is expected to take on a role as a development coach for the Oshawa Generals. However, until that starts, he has been spending his retirement relaxing and taking on the usual, rewarding work of being a dad. Though it is hard to imagine life for an NHLer after the league, there is no doubt he is happy with his new place in life, and that is something to be happy about for this former Edmonton Oilers forward.
"A little bit of golf, a lot of Dad Duty, a lot of pool time, so uh... School finished up here just at the end of May and then our youngest is doing daycare like three times a week, so a little bit
of me time but, uh, a lot of cooking, a lot of cleaning, and it's been, uh, it's been good"
