Edmonton Oilers insider Bob Stauffer has revealed a potential trade package the Oilers would send the Calgary Flames for Rasmus Andersson.
Stauffer appeared on the most recent episode of OilersNow and proposed an interesting trade offer should the Oilers lose Philip Broberg to the offer sheet made by the St. Louis Blues.
The offer would see the Oilers trade the Flames a first round pick, the 2025 second round pick they will receive as compensation for losing Broberg, and defender Brett Kulak for D-man Rasmus Andersson. With the Flames still in major rebuild mode, this trade makes sense for both sides.
Andersson, 27, has been a bright spot on a Flames team that has struggled to regain its footing since trading Matthew Tkachuk away. The Swedish defender has put up an extremely solid 88 points over the past two seasons, while also being a physical force on the back end, a rare combination in today's NHL.
Even better for the Oilers is that Andersson only carries a $4.5 million cap hit for the next two seasons, a very affordable price tag for a player of Andersson's calibre. He would pair extremely nicely on Edmonton's second D-pair, complimenting Darnell Nurse very well.
Even if the Oilers decide not to make a move for Andersson, they will still have some decisions to make about matching the offer sheets given to Broberg and Dylan Holloway. The Oilers will have to get creative if they want to keep both of them as Broberg was offered much more money than most feel he is worth, and the Oilers cannot afford to pay him and keep their current roster the same.
