Marc-Andre Fleury has been in Minnesota for a season and a half now. He has played well but not great in Minnesota with the Wild. He has been able to maintain control of the starter spot for the entirety of his tenure with the team. This may be coming to an end as Minnesota recently paid another goaltender who will challenge him for playing time.
Filip Gustavsson signed a 3-year $11.25 million dollar deal on Monday morning. He also was incredible in his first season with Minnesota in limited action posting a 2.10 goals-against average.
Now Minnesota must choose Fleury or Gustavsson as their workhorse goaltender. The numbers lean Gustavsson's way as his stats have been better and he is the younger player. However, it his hard to pass up the pedigree and experience that Fleury possesses.
Where Does Fleury Go Next
If a trade happens for Fleury he will likely have many suitors. Teams like the Buffalo Sabres or Detroit Red Wings who are looking to make a playoff push and could use a veteran presence and stability in goal could be a couple of options.
