The NHL has seen several of this generation's greats retire in recent times, and it now appears as though Marc-Andre Fleury has one option other than following them.
Yeah, it's probably Minnesota or retirement. I wouldn't want to move and take my three kids out of their environment. They've moved enough already. I don't want to uproot them. My girls have their school, their friends and their sports in Minnesota. And my wife, Veronique, is also happy here." Marc-Andre Fleury
Being a family man, it's no shock that Fleury cited his families stability in Minnesota as the reason for this move, and after a fantastic career, he could retire now and go down as one of the best goaltenders of all-time. However, the 39-year old has shown the ability to still be great this season, tallying a 2.85 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 36 games this year.
He won't chase down Martin Brodeur, but Fleury now sits alone in second on the all-time NHL win column for goaltenders, with an amazing career that anyone would be proud of. While the Wild don't appear to be Stanley Cup contenders, they have some solid pieces on this current roster, so it would come as no surprise if Fleury returned next season to play until he's 40-years old, but we are witnessing the end of one of the best goaltenders to ever step foot on the ice in the NHL.
