The Montreal Canadiens have just added another young goaltender, Luke Cavallin to their roster, signaling that the team isn't shy about building depth between the pipes.
Cavallin, a 23-year-old, 6'1", 196-pound goaltender, spent last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs' organization, playing nine games for the Marlies, their AHL affiliate. While he's still early in his pro career, he's displayed flashes of NHL potential .
Cavallin was the starting netminder for the Flint Firebirds in the OHL for four seasons, where he put up solid numbers, including a .910 save percentage in his final season. Yet he went undrafted and had to settle for an ECHL deal with the Newfoundland Growlers. The Greenly, Ontario native seized his newfound opportunity, posting a 2.95 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage, earning recognition as one of the top goalies in the league.
It's possible there could be more moves on the horizon, especially with a surplus of talented goalies in the mix. But for now, fans can look forward to seeing what Cavallin brings to the team. He's young, he's talented, and he's ready to make his mark in the Habs organization. And if he becomes a star, it'll represent more baggage for Canadiens fans to hang over Leafs nation.
