Montreal Canadiens organization reportedly took away all tributes from the arena

The NHL community is still reeling after the tragic passing of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau. Mourning groups from everywhere in large numbers have been seen practically in every other arena holding a vigil of some sort for the family of the Gaudreaus. Two of the larger ones were held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus and the Saddledome in Calgary.

These touching scenes have materialized nationwide as fans leave behind keepsakes at many arenas, this love speaking to the attachment binding the hockey community together. Not all arenas, however, viewed these touching tributes in quite so open-armed a fashion. In Montreal's Bell Centre, for example, memorials left nightly have disappeared.

This wasn't an incident that occurred once or twice, as this was more like a couple of times during the weekend and then the fans started to question the move pulled by the organization.

But while that might be somewhat of a policy matter, eyebrows are raised because back in 2022, the Bell Centre was left alone as a memorial site upon Guy Lafleur's death, as no one removed the tributes. And fans ask themselves, is it appropriate for the team to remove these memorials? An official explanation will most likely never come, but it lingers: should these items just be left there as a sign of respect until the season starts?
