An update on the police investigation into Adam Johnson's death has emerged, nearly a year after he lost his life during a hockey game.

In October 2023, the hockey world was shaken to its core when Adam Johnson, a former Pittsburgh Penguins player who spent five years in the AHL and played 13 NHL games, passed away following a tragic incident during a game.
He was cut in the neck by a skate blade during a game in the EIHL, in England, with the Nottingham Panthers.
At the time, the player who caused the injury, Matt Petgrave, was arrested and later made bail.
In a new development, we learned that Petgrave has been bailed again until November 11th. The investigation is ongoing, and the hearing date will likely be pushed back until they gather enough evidence.
Per BBC News:
"On Monday, police said a man, who was initially arrested in November, had been bailed again until 11 November.

A spokesperson for the force said: 'Our investigation is ongoing, and our thoughts remain with Adam's family.'"
While we wait for further updates on Johnson's case, his death has already had a profound impact on hockey worldwide.
It all started with junior leagues making neck guards mandatory, followed by the American Hockey League deciding to do the same. Indeed, all players will need to wear neck guards going into the 2024-25 season:
"SPRINGFIELD, Mass. American Hockey League President and CEO Scott Howson announced today that the AHL's Board of Governors has unanimously approved the mandatory use of cut-resistant neck protection by all of its players and on-ice officials, beginning with the upcoming 2024-25 season.

All AHL skaters, referees, and linespersons, regardless of age or experience, will be required to wear approved cut-resistant neck protection beginning this fall. Cut-resistant socks and wrist sleeves were previously mandated for AHL players and officials beginning with the 2023-24 season."
