The Florida Panthers are heading out of the rink feeling unlucky. Despite being the more dangerous team for most of the game, with a 108-44 edge in shot attempts, they fell 5-4 overtime loss to the New York Rangers.
After falling behind 4-2 by the end of the second period, the Panthers rallied in the third, drawing on their past playoff successes.
With 13 minutes and 2 seconds left on the clock, they managed to tie the game 4-4, thanks to goals from their captain, Aleksander Barkov, and Gustav Forsling, scored less than two minutes apart.
In the final 8:10 seconds of the third period, the Panthers bombarded Shesterkin with shot attempts, with the NHL crediting them with 24 attempts, all from Florida. Yet Igor Shesterkin stood tall, stopping every shot he faced.
The game ended just 5:35 seconds into overtime. Rangers' forward Alex Wennberg deflected Ryan Lindgren's shot past Sergei Bobrovsky.
There was some commotion behind the Panthers' bench as they considered whether to challenge the goal, but ultimately, head coach Paul Maurice decided against it, and the team left the ice in defeat, down 2-1 in the series.
Whatever Panthers are upset about here, there's an automatic league review. Wennberg scored to win itfor now
Next up, the two teams will face off again for Game 4 on Tuesday night at the Amerant Bank Arena in Florida.
