Dmitri Filimonov was a defenseman who played in the NHL for the Ottawa Senators as well as in the Canada Cup. He sadly passed away at the young age of 51.
Filimonov was a Russian defenseman and a draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets who spent his career in the NHL with the Ottawa Senators. His passing is no doubt a huge tragedy.
No cause of death was listed, however Sport-express.ru only listed that the passing was of "sudden" nature.
"Filimonov died suddenly. The hockey player's funeral is scheduled for Monday."
Filimonov was drafted in 1991 during the second round, and remained with the HC Dynamo Moscow in Russia until the 1993-94 season, when he ended up joining the Ottawa Senators after a trade. He had 5 points with the team in 30 games.

Filimonov played for the USSR National team at the 1991 Canada Cup, which was the very final time that tournament was played. The Soviet Union was later dissolved that year.
