Ottawa Senators staff member Bob Jones passes away after ALS battle
This evening sad news has been reported after an announcement was made on X confirming the passing of Ottawa Senators assistant coach Bob Jones.
The hockey community is in a state of mourning this evening after a post on X from Shawn Simpson that announced that Ottawa Senators assistant coach Bob Jones has passed away.
So sad to hear that my former @OHLHoundPower mate Bob Jones has passed away. He was such a great person and kind to everyone in his life. This is really hard to believe. Sending love to his family.
While Bob Jones' cause of his passing has not formally been announced he was diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease just over a year ago. When he was first diagnosed the hockey world came together to support him as he spoke about his diagnosis.

At the time of his diagnosis, several people including Senators' beat writer Bruce Garrioch talked about how wonderful of a person Bob Jones was and supported him through the journey of his diagnosis.
Bob Jones is one of the kindest, funniest and most gentle people you'll ever meet. Brave of him and his family to share his ALS diagnosis to help others. He's on the job today. #Sens
During his coaching career Bob Jones spent a lot of time lending his talents to the OHL coaching for the Sault Saint Marie Greyhounds, Sudbury Wolves, Windsor Spitfires, and Oshawa Generals. He then took the leap to professional hockey with the Texas Stars. After one AHL season he was hired by the Ottawa Senators where he stayed.
Our condolences and thoughts go out to Bob Jones' family, friends, and the Ottawa Senators during such a difficult time. Although he is no longer here the influence of Bob Jones and his story will continue to live on within the Ottawa Senators and the NHL community.
