We've seen some odd retirement announcements over the years, but this one might take the cake in terms of the most unique.

Nate Thompson recently announced his retirement from professional hockey in a rather unique way. The NHL veteran was on a podcast recently, where he let it slip that he was officially done playing in the NHL.

The podcast hosts asked Thompson if he'd announced this yet, to which he replied that he hadn't. Announcing your retirement via podcast is certainly an off way to approach it but to each their own.
Thompson released an official statement following the clip's release.
"From the time I was 4 until 38 hockey has been my life and best friend. I'm beyond grateful and thankful for all the great people I've met and friendships I've made. All good things must come to an end so thank you to all who supported me along this journey.✌🏼❤️"
Thompson played 844 NHL games over the course of his career for nine different NHL teams. He was a true journeyman and showed players everywhere that there are all sorts of ways to make it to the show.
Thompson has always been a class act, and we hope he gets to enjoy his retirement.
