Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier has been a healthy scratch in each of the team's last two games. The puzzling move has raised eyebrows around the NHL, leading to speculation about the real reason he's been scratched.

John Tortorella gets heat for scratching Flyers captain

Flyers head coach John Torotrella made a bold move this week when he healthy scratched captain Sean Couturier against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The move has peaked the interest of many around the hockey world, with many questioning the controversial coach's decision. The move has been highly unpopular with former players for obvious reasons.

However, the coach seems to know something we don't as the move actually worked. The Flyers won their matchup against the Maple Leafs, the first game where Couturier was scratched.

The team's captain was once again a healthy scratch as the Flyers faced another tough team in the Carolina Hurricanes. Their results were a less impressive this time around, but they still managed to secure a point with the 3-2 overtime loss.
John Tortorella did not want to reveal why he scratched the Flyers captain after their game in Toronto. He continues to refuse to answer questions about Couturier. This has lead to speculation as to why he is being scratched repeatedly.
If I had to take a stab at it, I'd say it has to do with Laughton's foot speed and being able to keep up with the pace Torts wants the team to play at.

Couturier's foot speed has visibly been an issue.
This is not the first time Tortorella has done something controversial and he continues to find success with his decisions. As such it may be some time before we see Couturier back on the ice.
