Last night San Jose Sharks goalie Devin Cooley secured his first win in the NHL. After the game, he made a strange comment to the media that made fans laugh. While some have laughed at the comment others find it morbid.
Goaltender Devin Cooley made his way to the San Jose Sharks at the NHL trade deadline from the Buffalo Sabres. Since arriving he has been the backup on a struggling Sharks team. Last night he finally got his first NHL win against the Seattle Kraken.
Not only did Devin Cooley secure the win but he made an incredible 49 saves in the process. After the game he was asked about his performance and his thoughts during it and his answer was a bit odd but hilarious.
"I look up, I'm like, Wow, a goal on 40 shots or whatever. I'm like, I feel good. It's just like, like nobody cares. You know, nothing's really gonna matter. we're all gonna die."
While some people found this to be a joke that went too far it is a good way to deal with the pressure of playing in such a high-pressure environment. If nothing is going to matter in the end there is less reason to worry or panic.
Whatever the thought process was for Devin Cooley it clearly worked as he had one of the best goaltending performances in the NHL this season. It will be fun to see if he can continue his success in the last couple of games of the season.
