James Van Riemsdyk has played in over 1,000 NHL games, and he continues to crack at it, having just signed a PTO with the Seattle Kraken.
With training camps just around the bend, players are starting to filter into their teams' facilities, and rosters are getting their final tweaks. Over the past few days, a number of players have inked professional tryout contracts (PTO). Teams often use these as a way to stir up some healthy competition in camp, while others genuinely see it as a chance to beef up their roster for the upcoming season.
Veteran forward James van Riemsdyk may fall into either category after reportedly signing a PTO with the Seattle Kraken. Seattle has made a few key offseason pickups, adding players like Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour. Still, they aren't among the deeper teams in the league. It opens a door for 35-year-old James van Riemsdyk to secure a roster spot and maybe convince GM Ron Francis he deserves a standard contract once camp wraps up.
James Van Riemsdyk brings loads of experience, having suited up for 1,011 regular-season NHL games and 82 playoff matchups with the Flyers, Bruins, and Maple Leafs. He tallies 629 career points, including 311 goals. Last season with Boston, he proved he still has it going, putting up 38 points in 71 games, with 11 of those being goals, proving he can be a solid contributor to the bottom six.
