Tampa Bay met an unfortunate fate during this year's playoffs, as they fell in six games to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The powerhouse team is still very much one of the NHL's top contenders, and it looks like they may be going all out to keep one of their most important role players.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Lightning have extended a long-term deal to Killorn, which would be indicative of their appreciation of his services. While the dollar amount wasn't massive per year, the term was believed to be substantial. We don't know if Killorn has made up his mind yet.
The veteran forward leads by example every game, and Tampa Bay never has to ask him for more effort. Jon Cooper can consistently rely on Killorn for an energy shift late in a close game, and he can bring an important physical aspect if needed.
Tampa Bay would be foolish to let such an important player leave their team, but the ultimate decision is in Killorn's hands. We don't know how much they've offered him per year, so maybe it wasn't high enough for him to accept it just yet.
