The Toronto Maple Leafs came into 2023-24 expecting big things from goaltender Ilya Samsonov, but thus far, he's been nothing but a disappointment for a team in desperate need of a No. 1 goaltender.

Brad Treliving reveals the plan for the young goaltender

After struggling to a 3.94 GAA and an .862 save percentage, the Maple Leafs placed him on Waivers, with the intention of returning him to the Toronto Marlies, and unsurprisingly, he passed through.
Now, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has revealed the plan going forward, and it appears as though game time is no part of that plan anytime soon.
#Leafs GM Brad Treliving, speaking with reporters here in LA, says the plan with Ilya Samsonov is to work with Marlies goalie coach Hanna Toivonen and simply get through the week to get his game back. And then reassess. No plans for any games with the Marlies at this point.
At such a young age, it appears as though Toronto aren't giving up on him, and if they can help him get right mentally and find his confidence, he's shown that he can be great, so the team will be hoping he can get back to that level once more.
