The Toronto Maple Leafs made a decision this afternoon that has called into question the authority and control that General Manager Brad Treliving has within the locker room.
Maple Leafs Bend To Reaves' Demands And Activate Him
Over the last couple of days Ryan Reaves came out in the media and publicly admitted he has been healthy for weeks.
«Yeah, I've been ready for a couple weeks now,» Reaves said. That's a question for them. I am not in those rooms, in those conversations. I'm not going to speculate anything. Just stay ready. And if I get called upon, I do. If I don't, I get my work in.»
These comments from Reaves sent shockwaves through the NHL and began rumors of salary cap manipulation by the Maple Leafs. While the Maple Leafs could keep him as a scratch leaving a healthy player on injured reserve is against the rules.
With the speculation mounting the Maple Leafs bent to Reaves' demands to be activated.
While it remains to be seen if Reaves is back in the lineup this week this does bring up questions for the Maple Leafs. Not often does a player come out and say they are not healthy and are being forced off the ice. It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out and if this affects the locker room.
